Shortly after the fair opened, Carmelite sisters Peter Marie and Therese left their cloister to lead those present in prayer. Sr. Therese also thanked fairgoers, saying, "We the sisters of this Carmelite monastery would like to express our deepest, deepest gratitude to all of you for supporting us. We thank you and we ask God to bless you, and we will keep you in our daily prayers. God bless you."

The annual Carmelite Fair was held Sept. 20 under blue skies at the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary monastery in Holladay. Hundreds of people turned out for fun, food and to bid on auction items in support of the nuns, who depend on the fair as their primary source of income. In conjunction with the fair, a golf tournament was held Sept. 19 and a 5K run/walk took place prior to the fair’s opening.
