Blessed Sacrament and Saint Vincent de Paul are among the many Utah Catholic Schools that have undertaken the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which raises awareness of and funds to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a nerve disorder that affects voluntary muscle movement. For the most part, the causes of ALS are unknown, and there is no treatment or cure.
Shown are the Blessed Sacrament seventh-graders, who chose to donate the funds they raised to the Iowa City-based John Paul II Medical Research Institute, which does not use embryonic stem cell research, and the Saint Vincent de Paul School sixth-greaders.
