Service of Lessons and Carols — by the Choir of Saint Ambrose. Monday, Dec. 19 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 2315 Redondo Ave., SLC. Enjoy hot cocoa and apple cider from 6 to 7 p.m. while singing carols around a fire, then take part in a presentation of Christmas music and reflections on the mysteries of the season. Free and open to the public. 

Christmas Carol Service — Monday, Dec. 19, 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. The Choir of the Cathedral of the Madeleine, featuring the Choristers of the Madeleine Choir School, will perform the music of Luca Marenzio, Anton Bruckner and Herbert Howells. Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord — Sunday, Dec. 25, is a holy day of obligation. Check your parish for Mass times. Masses at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC, will be: Vigil Mass in English, Dec. 24 at 6 p.m.; Midnight Mass; and Dec. 25 at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon (with the Cathedral Choir, choristers and orchestra); and 3 p.m. in Spanish.

Vespers and Benediction — Sunday, Dec. 25, 5 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC.

Pastoral Center closed — Friday, Dec. 30, for the New Year holiday. The Pastoral Center will reopen 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God — is Sunday, Jan. 1. Check your parish for Mass times.

Eccles Organ Festival — Sunday, Jan. 8, 8 p.m.  in the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. Organ recital with Brian Mathias of Brigham Young University. Free and open to the public.  

Shadow Day — Monday, Jan. 9, at Judge Memorial CHS, 650 South 1100 East, SLC. Prospective students are invited to shadow a current student for a day, attending classes and meeting students. Preregistration required; visit http://www.judgememorial.com/apps/pages/shadow.

 

Pastoral Center closed — Monday, Jan. 16, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Pastoral Center will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.

 

Reserved Seating Passes — for the Christmas Midnight Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine are available by calling the rectory office, 801-328-8941. They are available to cathedral parishioners through Dec. 16. Beginning Dec. 17, the passes will be available to the general public. The passes, which are free, must be picked up the same day they are requested.  

Our Lady of the Snows Chapel — The celebration of the Mass has resumed at our Lady of the Snows Chapel in Alta. Masses will take place each Sunday at 5 p.m. throughout the ski season.  Mass for Christmas will be on Dec. 25 at 10 a.m. For information, call 801-272-9216.

Scouting Religious Emblems — Now is the time for all Scouts to begin work on and complete the appropriate Scout-related Religious Emblem. Information for Venture Crews, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts religious emblems is available at nccs-bsa.org.  Girl Scouts, refer to nccgscf.org. Application deadline is Dec. 21 so the emblems and certificates can be ordered in time for Scout Saturday, which will be held at the Cathedral of the Madeleine next year.
