Beer Fest — Sunday, July 24, 1-7 p.m., at the Madeleine Choir School, 205 E. 1st Ave., SLC. Local breweries, food trucks, inflatables for the kids and live music. Cost: $60 at the door, includes six beer. Early bird admission: $50. Designated drivers and guests under 21, $10. 

Parish Carnival — Aug. 5-6; Friday, 6-10 p.m., and Saturday, 3-10 p.m. at Saint Patrick Church, 1058 West 400 South, SLC. Enjoy ethnic food, live entertainment, silent auction, opportunity drawing, games and prizes for adults and kids.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary — Monday, Aug. 15, is not a holy day of obligation this year. (The NCCB decree of 13 December 1991, confirmed by the Apostolic See on 04 July 1992, stipulates that whenever Aug. 15 falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated.)

Pastoral Congress — for the Diocese of Salt Lake City. Saturday, Sept. 17, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Skaggs Catholic Center, 300 East 11800 South, Draper. Building on the Jubilee Year theme of Merciful Like the Father, Congress offers keynote addresses and more than 30 speakers who will explore many aspects of forgiveness for today’s world.  The $45 registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch and dessert with exhibitors. Run for the Nuns — 5K race to benefit the Carmelite nuns. Sept. 18; the race begins at 8 a.m. and ends at the monastery, 5714 Holladay Blvd., Holladay. Catholics Can Award — The Diocese of Salt Lake City Commission for People with Disabilities is accepting nominations for the annual Catholics Can Award, which may be given to a parish, an organization or an individual who ensure all are welcome and served in our local Church.
