Closed — The Diocese of Salt Lake City Pastoral Center will be closed from noon Dec. 31 until 8:30 a.m. Jan. 5 for the New Year holiday.

New Year’s Eve Party — Friday, Dec. 31, 8 p.m. - 1 a.m. at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7405 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan. Appetizers, champagne toast and dancing. Cost is $25 per person in advance or $30 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the parish office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God — Thursday, Jan. 1, the Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God, is not a holy day of obligation in the Diocese of Salt Lake City.

First Friday Mass — with the Catholic Woman’s League. Friday, Jan. 2, 9 a.m. at Saint Ann Catholic Church, 2119 South 400 East, SLC. Intention: comfort for the sick and grieving. Bingo Game Night — Saturday, Jan. 3, 7 p.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish’s social hall, 670 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City. Cost is $14 for Bingo games; dinner is $4.

Eccles Organ Festival — Sunday, Jan. 11, 8 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC with a recital by Renée Anne Louprette. The program includes music by Bach, Guilain, Couperin and the performance of the entire Second Suite of Louis Vierne’s Pièces de Fantaisie. Free and open to the public.
 
Film Showing — Thursday, Jan. 15, 7 p.m. in the Juan Diego CHS auditorium, 300 East 11800 South, Draper. The JDCHS Human Rights International Club Film Festival will feature the documentary The Human Experience, with a running time of 90 minutes. Admission is free. 

School Open House — The Madeleine Choir School will host its annual open house/information session on Sunday, Jan. 25, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary, just stop by for information and tours of the  campus. Staff, students, and parents will be available to answer questions. The Madeleine Choir School is located at 205 1st Ave., Salt Lake City. 2015 Aquinas Lecture — Jesuit Fr. Thomas J. Reese, senior analyst for the National Catholic Reporter, will present this year’s Aquinas Lecture; his topic is “Pope Francis and Reform of the Church.” The lecture will be Sunday, Jan. 25, at 12:30 p.m. at Saint Catherine of Siena/Newman Center, 170 University St. in SLC. The event is free and open to the public.

Scout Saturday — Saturday, Jan. 31, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. A special ceremony for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to receive their religious emblems from Bishop John C. Wester.

Cirque du St. Vincent’s Auction — Saturday, Feb. 7, at Saint Vincent de Paul Parish, 1375 E. Spring Lane, SLC. Big Top theme for a night of dinner, drinks and auctions to raise funds for the school. Tickets are  $75 before Jan. 9 and $80 after. RSVP by Feb. 2. 

Year of Consecrated Life Mass — Sunday, Feb. 8, 11 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. Bishop John C. Wester will celebrate a Mass in honor of the Year of Consecrated Life. All are invited.

Meeting for Black Catholic Families — with Andrew and Terri Lyke, founders of the Arusi network, which helps sustain and promote the unique gifts of Black Catholic families. The Lykes are consultors to the Vatican on family issues, have national speaking engagements, and will be presenters at the 2015 Vatican World Meeting of Families. The meeting will be Sunday, Feb. 15, from 2-4 p.m. at the Diocese of Salt Lake City Chancery offices, 303 E. South Temple.
