SALT LAKE CITY — Three parishes in the Diocese of Salt Lake City provide American Sign Language translators at Sunday Masses.
For more than 20 years, Saint Vincent de Paul Parish in Salt Lake City has provided an ASL interpreter at the 9 a.m. Mass; in February the parish began offering additional ASL Masses at the 11:30 a.m. service on the first, third and fifth Sundays of each month.
ASL is offered at St. Catherine of Siena Newman Parish in Salt Lake City during the 10:45 Mass every Sunday.
At St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Park City, ASL services are available during the 9:30 a.m. Mass on the third Sunday of the month.
Utah’s Deaf Catholics are visited about once a year by a priest who is Deaf or knows sign language, who usually conducts a retreat and the sacraments.
