BOUNTIFUL — For the 17th year, the Ladies of Charity of Northern Utah will hold their annual fundraising barbecue and appreciation meal for Center of Hope food pantry donors. This year’s event will be held on June 23 at St. Olaf Parish’s McNamara Center in Bountiful.

Those who attend the barbecue will enjoy a meal of pulled pork, salads, baked beans, fruit, chips and drinks. Tickets are $15/adult; $5 child; $40/family. They may be purchased from members at St. Olaf’s after June Masses or online at ladies-of-charity-utah.square.site.

Along with the food, there will be a drawing for gift certificates (one $250 gift certificate, two $100 gift certificates and one $50 gift certificate). Tickets are $10 each. Ladies of Charity members have also prepared several baskets for a smaller drawing; tickets are $1 each. They also will be selling Hope Soap.

The Grateful Hearts Barbecue is the Center of Hope’s only fundraiser and helps supplement what the pantry receives in donations, grants and from the Utah Food Bank, said Nancy Andes, president of Ladies of Charity of Northern Utah.

“Before Covid, we served about 100 families each month, but since Covid that number has increased to 450 to 500 families a month,” she said. “We’re also getting new applications from 50 to 60 families each month now. Many of the families are immigrants new to Utah.”

The pantry has struggled to keep up with the increased demand, she said, so the Ladies of Charity are encouraging everyone who can to come out and enjoy the barbecue.
