October 26, 1945 ~ February 9, 2023

Betty Ann (Elizabeth) Trujillo Maestas, 77, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Roper Hospice Cottage in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. She was surrounded by her three children and youngest brother Fr. David. Although Betty Ann was known as a fighter with a strong will to live, COVID weakened her already fatigued body and she was unable to overcome a second bout of pneumonia. Prior to her unfortunate passing, Betty Ann wanted to make sure she extended her deep and profound gratitude to her medical teams at The Medical University of South Carolina, all of whom provided outstanding care and made her feel safe and important.

Born on October 26, 1945, in Bingham Canyon, Utah, Betty Ann was daughter of the late Manuelita Martinez Trujillo and Adolph Trujillo. She grew up in Midvale, where she later became pageant queen, Miss Latina. She later married George Maestas and had three children. Betty Ann was a “Jill of all Trades” with a curiosity to try new experiences. She was able to retire and eventually chose to live near the Atlantic Ocean. Betty Ann enjoyed her retirement very much. She was thrilled to have had frequent visits from her grandchildren who tended her garden and painted her nails. Betty Ann was described by her friends as “having a good sense of humor, a strong faith and having a good nature toward life.”

Betty Ann is survived by her children, Paul and his wife Christie of Clinton, Tennessee; Rebecca and her husband Kevin Fosberry Sr. of Mount Pleasant; and James and his wife Jenny of James Island. Betty Ann is also survived by her five grandchildren, Bradley Maestas, Kevin Michael and Lainey Fosberry, and Ella and Ruby Maestas; her brothers Adolph Trujillo and his wife Esther, and Rev. David Trujillo of St. James the Just Roman Catholic Church in Ogden. She very much loved her role as “Tia Betty” to her nephews and niece, Jeff, Randy, TJ, Bobby and Maxine, all of Salt Lake City. Betty Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, M. George Maestas, her brother Ernest Trujillo, her sister Elaine T. Gomez, Jennifer McDougal and her parents.
