SALT LAKE CITY — Blessed Sacrament Catholic School has been awarded first place in the annual snow plow painting contest sponsored by Salt Lake County Public Works Department. Blessed Sacrament teacher Marcy Mullholand was approached by Salt Lake County to participate, and she thought it would be a wonderful opportunity for her students. The plow was delivered in April. The students who were selected to participate in the contest were Connor Murphy, Natalie Montoya, Laurel Baker, Parker Godwin, Matthew Fletcher and Kayla Kremer. These six were required to sketch their snow plow entry. They then analyzed each sketch and came up with a master plan for their painting. The students’ efforts paid off with a prize-winning entry. The first place "trophy" is a Salt Lake County street sign bearing the name Blessed Sacrament School, which will be installed in a prominent location on campus after the beginning of school in August. The plow will service the streets around the school, so that students can see their masterpiece at work. "I was so excited to have the opportunity to participate in this contest," Mullholand said. "I am proud of the students and Blessed Sacrament School’s commitment to providing a well-rounded liberal arts education along with rigorous academics, especially at a time when art budgets are being cut in other school settings." The completed plows were displayed at the Midvale Public Works Department on May 17 and 18 as part of National Public Works Week. Story and photo courtesy of Blessed Sacrament Catholic School.
