Bruce John Kalil, 58, of Salt Lake City, died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

Born in Methuen, Massachusetts, he was the son of Alfred Kalil and Joan (Scannell) Kalil. After moving to Manchester, New Hampshire in 1967, Bruce graduated from Manchester Memorial High School in 1978 and received his B.S. from Plymouth State University and his M.B.A. from Southern New Hampshire University.

After teaching U.S. history at Trinity High School, Bruce worked at his family’s business, Derry Wayside Furniture. He was also an adjunct faculty instructor at SNHU.

In 2011, Bruce moved to Salt Lake City, working for both Bayer Healthcare and Boston Heart Diagnostics.

Bruce loved the great outdoors, fly fishing, hiking in Yellowstone National Park and especially riding his Harley.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie (Schwartz) of 30 years; his two sons, Matthew of Salt Lake City, and Dylan of Park City; his parents, Alfred and Joan Kalil of Bedford, New Hampshire; his brothers David Kalil and family of Stowe, Vermont and Jeffrey Kalil and his family of Bedford, New Hampshire.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 25 at the Cathedral of the Madeleine.
