Last Monday we gathered for a wonderful conclusion to a year of celebration of the Cathedral’s Centenary. Our wonderful choristers from the Choir School enhanced our liturgy as quite a few priests and deacons joined with the faithful of the Cathedral parish and diocese to mark the end of our centennial. At the end of the beautiful liturgy, we blessed the contents of the new time capsule that will be placed in the foundation of the Cathedral. It includes books written by Bernice Mooney and Msgr. Fitzgerald, Dr. Gary Topping and others. There are copies of the Intermountain Catholic, United States coins in mint condition from 2009 and other artifacts.

We all owe a great debt of gratitude to Msgr. Mayo, Father Ontiveros, Gregory Glenn and Arlie Llenares as well as the entire cathedral staff. They did a splendid job in every way. I would also like to thank Laurel Dokos-Griffith for all she did in preparing for and executing the many events associated with the centenary event. We are blessed to have such generous and talented people working in our diocese and I thank them all!

I invited the children at the Mass to join me in 100 years to open the time capsule. They eagerly responded that they would love to and I’m going to do my best not to disappoint them! Actually, they just might!
