To honor their dead during this time, many Hispanics set up an altar, called an ofrenda (offering). This ofrenda was created by Vicky Lowe, a Spanish teacher at the Madeleine Choir School, with the assistance of some families. The ofrenda is displayed at the school entrance.

All Saints Day, Nov. 1, is a holy day of obligation. Masses at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, will be at 8 a.m., noon and 6 p.m., or check your local parish for Mass times. The cathedral also will celebrate Mass at the same times on All Souls Day, Nov. 2, which is not a holy day of obligation.

In the Diocese of Salt Lake City, All Saints Day and All Souls Day are celebrated with Masses as well as the Hispanic tradition of Día de los Muertos. All Saints' Day, Nov. 1, is dedicated to the saints of the Church. All Souls' Day, Nov. 2, is dedicated to those who have died but not yet reached heaven. To honor their dead during this time, many Hispanics set up an altar, called an ofrenda (offering); ofrendas can be seen throughout the Diocese of Salt Lake City.
