SALT LAKE CITY — Charito Montoya, 57, died May 1, 2013. Montoya was born on June 25, 1955, in Negros Occidental, in the Republic of the Philippines. Montoya graduated with a degree in nursing and became a registered nurse in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. While there she met Percy Montoya and they were married in the Philippines in 1988. The Montoyas joined Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church. In 2010, she was selected as the Woman of the Year at the parish. Montoya is survived by her husband; son Charles; and three sisters, Carmenchita De La Torre, Cynva Gumana and Charisse Singuay. Montoya was preceded in death by her father, Apolonio Varela, and mother, Consolacion Varela. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.
