Charles (Chuck) Bick Tanner

Charles ("Chuck") Bick Tanner passed away Nov. 13, 2014.

He was born Sept. 19, 1942 to Fred Clark "Bick" Tanner and Katherine Irene Peale in San Pedro, Calif. He graduated from San Pedro High School and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. While pledging Pi Sigma Chi, Tanner met the love of his life, Jo Ann Balkus; they married in 1963, and raised six children. A mechanical engineer, Tanner worked for Southern California Gas Co., and was a private contractor with Kennecott Utah Copper and other mining companies. Fishing, auto repair, gardening, and attending children's sports and musical events were favorite activities. Having lived in many parts of southern California and Bluffdale, Utah, the couple was in the process of building and retiring in Montana's Paradise Valley.

Tanner died at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, SLC.  He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; children: Twyla Arant (Tom), April Laschinger (Jim), Charles II "Chuck", Clark, Clint (Cait) and Paige; grandchildren: Curtis (Karri) and Charles "C.J." Eakin, Ariana, Wesley and Brenna Arant, Katelynn and Charles III "Bick" Tanner, Sophie Goldberg and Zoe Tanner; his mother, Katherine, and brother-in-law Joe Balkus (Carol).

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9800 South 1700 East, Sandy. Donations may be made to Huntsman Cancer Institute, with thanks to the ICU.
