Coats for Kids
Friday, Dec. 23, 2016
At various times this winter, the Utah Knights of Columbus have distributed winter coats, hats and gloves to children of Catholic Community Services clients. During the first distribution, on Nov. 5 at CCS in Ogden, nearly 500 children received new and gently used winter clothing items. The second distribution took place on Dec. 10 at CCS in Salt Lake City, when 362 children received winter coats, hats and gloves. Knights throughout the Salt Lake area and Park City pooled their resources to purchase new coats and also gathered many gently used coats from their parishioners to donate. CCS personnel had notified their clients beforehand, and on the day of the event checked in the families. The Knights, family members and volunteers escorted every child to pick out and try on their own coat size and color; the kids were also able to pick out hats, gloves and scarves. After the initial distribution, the remaining coats were turned over to the CCS in Salt Lake City and the Cathedral of the Madeline for future distribution. In addition, Knights of Columbus Council 1129 of Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish in Park City served breakfast for and distributed 124 coats to the Holy Cross Ministries and Heber City Santa’s Helper programs.
