Daniel Joseph Donohue

LOS ANGELES, calif. — Daniel Joseph Donohue passed away Dec. 3, 2014. 
Donohue was born July 30, 1919, in Newark, N.J., to Daniel J. Donohue, MD, and Julia Walter Donohue. He married Bernardine Murphy on Jan. 16, 1954. In 1957 he was a founding trustee of the Dan Murphy Foundation, which was named in honor of his father-in-law. 
Donohue was president and chairman of the Dan Murphy Foundation for 40 years, during which time he guided the philanthropy of the Foundation to the benefit of the inner-city Catholic high schools of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, programs serving the poor, and the works of the Roman Catholic Church universal. He was a benefactor of the Madeleine Choir School, and was instrumental to the construction of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, the establishment of Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula, Calif., the founding of the Patrons of the Arts of the Vatican Museums, and the Papal Foundation in Philadelphia. 
Donohue was a Knight of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, a Knight Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of Holy Sepulcher, and a Knight Commander of St. Gregory. 
Donohue is survived by his sister, Rosemary E. Donohue, and nieces. 
A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 16, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles. 
A memorial Mass is being planned in January in the Cathedral of the Madeleine. The date and time will be announced.
