The ofrenda (a Spanish word meaning “offering”) is part of the traditional Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) celebration, a time during which people pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Although known in English as altars, these displays are not for worship but rather to commemorate the souls of loved ones and help them on their spiritual journey. Shown are a few of the altars that have been created in parishes throughout the Diocese of Salt Lake City.
