December 5, 1917 ~ March 15, 2024

Enedina Astorga Elizondo Stubbs (Dena) passed away peacefully in her home at 106 years of age on March 15, 2024. She was born to Gregorio and Euphemia Sena Astorga on December 5, 1917 in Silt, Colorado. She graduated from North Denver High School in 1938, where she studied shorthand, bookkeeping and business courses.

Grandma’s faith and determination were legendary, and she relied on both to see her through tough times. Dena became an orphan at the age of 11 and lost contact with her nine siblings. After searching for each other, Dena and her siblings were reunited in 1961. Although a 1939 marriage ended in divorce, the union brought her two wonderful children. She raised her two children by herself working as a waitress.

Dena married Francis L. (Hap) Stubbs on October 5, 1962 in Elko, Nevada. She was an active member of the Catholic Church; attended the local community center where she spent many hours enjoying lunch, cards and other activities with her friends. Dena was named Woman of the Year for her volunteer work at both organizations, St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish and Midvale Senior Center.

Enedina was preceded in death by her spouse Hap; parents Gregorio and Euphemia Astorga; stepfather John Nelson; nine siblings Migel (Ceilia) Astorga, Theresa (Leo) Loya, Cora (John) Silverton, Paul (Angie) Astorga, Ralph (Mary) Astorga, Robert Astorga, Joseph (Guinevere) Astorga, Janet Nelson (or Barbara Jean Worley), Vera Nelson (or Muriel Audry Olsen, who married John Rowley).

She is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Harlan) Thompson Cooper; son Arthur (Jo) Elizondo; nine grandchildren Kevin Thompson, Kelly (Bret) Reimann, Dean (Paula) Thompson, Brandon Elizondo, Amy Granzin, Peter (Bonnie) Granzin, Butch (Ann) Cooper, Cathy (Dwaine) Frazier, Kim Wilcox; numerous nieces and nephews; 17 great-grandchildren Ariana Elizondo, Amber (KC) Burns, Benjamin Reimann, Serene (Cameron) Swain, Jessica (Ricardo) Donosso, Trina (Tyson) Taylor, Joshua (Ali) Reimann, Rondi (Derek) Acker, Marissa Reimann, Jocylin Granzin, Marshall Granzin, Max Granzin, Austin, Carson, Zoey Cooper, Naomi Taylor, Michael Barfuss; 23 great-great-grandchildren Easton, Kaley and Jace Burns; Ryleigh, Morgan, Alexis, Hadley, Ellie and Britton Swain; Emerald, Lilian, Samantha, Max and Malakai Donosso; Connor, Colton and Caydence Taylor; Rowen and soon-to-arrive Jovi Reimann; Emery and Addilynn Acker; Logan Reimann, James Dean Wilcox.
