As part of its celebration of the Eucharistic Revival, the Diocese of Salt Lake City is sponsoring an essay contest. Parishioners older than 21 are invited to submit an essay of at least 1,000 words in English or Spanish explaining what the Eucharistic Revival at the diocesan stage or the parish stage has meant to them. Accompanying photos are encouraged.

Essays should be submitted by Nov. 25 by email to Father Christopher Gray, the diocesan point person for the Eucharistic Revival and pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Park City, at christopher@ceegee.org. Winners will receive a scholarship to next year’s National Eucharistic Congress; the scholarships will cover travel, accommodations and admission into the Congress.

Fr. Gray will lead a pilgrimage from Utah to the National Eucharistic Congress, which will be held July 17–21, 2024 in Indianapolis, Ind. He is inviting interested Catholics to join him. Space is limited to 50 participants. Registration information is available at https://www.dioslc.org/eucharistic-revival/national-eucharistic-congress. Fr. Gray warns that the process is a little complicated, so he invites those who may run into difficulty to contact him and he will help them register.

This is the first time in 85 years there has been a National Eucharistic Congress, and the event is expected to draw 80,000 Catholics to Lucas Oil Stadium.

“The National Eucharistic Congress is a long time coming,” Fr. Gray said. “I think it is important that the Diocese of Salt Lake City should be represented at this national event, especially in light of the success of our own Eucharistic Rally.”

Bishop Oscar A. Solis is among those planning to attend the congress.
