Last Friday night, I joined about 25 people to celebrate the annual Father Kaiser award banquet at Lorena's restaurant in Woods Cross. It was a wonderful evening of camaraderie, good food and speeches in which we honored those who give so selflessly of their time to visit inmates in the jails of our diocese. There were several administrators of the Davis County Sheriff's Department who were in attendance and I was very impressed by their dedication, competence and compassion. Of course, I am always so deeply grateful to our Catholic volunteers who give so much of themselves to live out Christ's command as seen in Matthew 25: When I was in prison you came to visit me." Special thanks to Deacon Manuel Trujillo, who gave a moving talk, as well as to Illa Wright for her incredible leadership in our diocese as she continues to coordinate our detention ministry program. If anyone is interested in volunteering to visit those in jails within our diocese, please contact the pastoral center for more information.
