SALT LAKE CITY — Fidel Emileto "Pete" Martinez Jr., 76, passed away July 19, 2012.

Martinez was born in Park City on May 9, 1936 to Fidel E. Martinez and Margaret Trujillo. He served 16 years of U.S. military service, contributed as a Disabled American Veterans Service Officer for the State of Utah, was instrumental in the establishment of the Utah State Korean War Memorial and was a distinguished associate of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the United Veterans Council and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Martinez was preceded in death by his mother; father; four brothers and four sisters.

Martinez is survived by his wife, Sharon Jones Martinez; children Michael Pete (Karla) Martinez, Cliff (Barbara) Martinez, Patti (Chris) McCall; brothers Thomas and Edward James Martinez; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
