Foodfast Retreat
Friday, Mar. 25, 2016
Eleven members of Christ the King Parish’s High School Mission Team participated in a 24-hour foodfast as part of a weekend retreat in Kanab Feb. 19-21. The group used a program offered by Catholic Relief Services that increases awareness of hunger issues around the world, personal consumption and food choice patterns. For several weeks prior to the retreat, the group studied the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy as well as major themes of Catholic social teaching, study that they will continue after the retreat, which included two extended prayer services and a special Mass with commissioning service. In addition, members of the group provided most of the liturgical ministries for the Sunday Mass at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Kanab. Retreatants also participated in two hikes in the Kanab area as well as a tour of the nearby Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.
