George Malcolm “Little Mel” Andersen, 65, of Salt Lake City, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, after a heroic fight against ALS.

Mel was born on Feb. 4, 1952, to Malcolm George “Big Mel” Andersen and Lena Hodgson. Mel grew up in Salt Lake City, graduated from Granite High School in 1970 and attended the University of Utah.

Mel married his soulmate Linda on Mar. 29, 1980. They remained inseparable for the next 37 years.

His wife, Linda; his two daughters, Kimberlee (Russ) and Melanie (Adam); and his two favorite grandchildren, Barrett and Bryce, survive Mel.

A celebration of his life was held on Oct. 20, with a funeral Mass celebrated the following day at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Salt Lake City.
