SALT LAKE CITY — Saint Catherine of Siena/Newman Center hosted members of the Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable on Feb. 22 for the parish’s regular Lenten Friday night activities: vespers, followed by the Stations of the Cross, then a soup dinner, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Taize. During Adoration, a rosary was recited for the intention of the Holy Spirit’s guidance of the College of Cardinals as they prepare to elect the next pope. The parish began this rosary on Feb. 14 and will continue it each day except Sunday until the new pope is elected. The Interfaith Roundtable has been offering a number of events in February and March that highlight different faiths. The Rev. Canon Caryl Marsh of the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint Mark in Salt Lake City, who also is on the Interfaith Roundtable board of directors, said by attending the different events she gains a better understanding of other faith perspectives. "Probably the most important thing is that we’ve all discovered that at heart we are all very similar," Canon Marsh said. "I think what happens is that we gain understanding of the other so that in a sense the ‘other’ then becomes familiar and then becomes not ‘them.’"
