Members of the Catholic Services jail ministry were recognized along with volunteers in numerous other programs at the Sept. 20 appreciation dinner put on by the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office Program coordinators. In all, the volunteers donate more than 60,000 hours to the various programs. The impact of their efforts are felt in the jails, said Salt Lake Sheriff’s Captain Jared Tame, the master of ceremonies for the dinner. The work that the volunteers do is felt in the jails, “through the books you provide, the diplomas you help earn, the spiritual support and the addiction recovery efforts that you facilitate. The fact is, you do change lives, and you do make a positive difference,” said Tame, who is captain of the Programs division, as he thanked all the volunteers for their “continued service and kindness to those in need.” The Catholic Services jail ministry has 17 members representing numerous parishes in the diocese.
