DRAPER — It was Senior Night as Juan Diego and Judge Memorial Catholic high schools battled for the Region 10 volleyball title on Juan Diego’s court Oct.18. The five seniors on the Soaring Eagle team were honored with a tribute and a bouquet of flowers; a bouquet of flowers was also given to the five seniors on Judge Memorial’s team.

Before the game began, the five Juan Diego players were called in alphabetical order to center court with their parents as a tribute was read about their favorite memories of their volleyball careers, who influenced them, who they wanted to thank and what advice they would give the younger players. In turn, the younger team members spoke about how the seniors had influenced and inspired them.

Rachel Enloe began playing volleyball when she was 8 years old. One of her best memories was playing for the state championship last year. She loves the saying, “A talented athlete is not hard to find, what is hard to find is a talented athlete with a proper work ethic to achieve his or her highest potential.”

She was admired by her younger classmates for her advice and for being one of the best volleyball players to come to Juan Diego.

Erin Fitzpatrick said the people who influenced her volleyball career the most were all of her coaches, teammates and parents because they have always been supportive and pushed her to be her best. Her advice to the younger team members is to play with no regrets and to have fun. Her younger teammates said “she can always make the best out of every situation.”

Lauren Lasrich’s favorite athletes are her fellow seniors, who have made some of her best volleyball memories on and off the court. She thanked all the coaches and teammates who have influenced and supported her career throughout the years, and pushed her to her potential. She also thanked her parents for listening to her and encouraging her. Her younger teammates thanked her for her amazing personality, for being a role model and for her positive influence on their lives.

Katherine McIntire was also admired as a role model by the younger team members because she works hard at everything she does. Although the team teases her about her amazing intelligence, they predict she will get a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, go on to get her Ph.D. and probably find a cure for cancer. McIntire’s advice for the younger players is to build up the team because it is basically their second family.

Courtney Nagore is known as the stunning redhead. She wants to go out of state to college to become a special education teacher. She started playing volleyball when she was 9, and says her teammates have helped her grow and have inspired her to keep playing. She is known to the younger players as a sweet and considerate person. However, is also known to have a competitive side on the court. Her intense focus helps motivate them to play.
