SALT LAKE CITY — John Carol (Jack) Ivers, Sr., 91, died Jan. 16, 2011 in Littleton, Colo.

Ivers was born in Salt Lake City on May 13, 1919. He graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School and attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He served in both the Army and Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Helen Hawk, to whom he was married 65 years. She preceded him in death. Following the war, he was manager of a chain of theaters before joining KUTV Channel 2, where he was a film director until his retirement.

He was a rare, genuine human being with an infectious passion for life and learning that he passed on to each of his children. His kind voice, teddy bear hugs and his ability to make each person feel important and cherished were hallmarks of his character. He was well-read, dedicated to his faith and was blessed with perpetual optimism. Ivers would do anything for anyone and was beloved by his six children and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by daughters Carroll Anderson, Colorado; Sheila Ivers, Salt Lake City; Bridget Parker, Montana; son John C. Jack Ivers, California; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and his life-long friend John (Jack) Gallivan and sister-in-law Sally Convery Ivers, both of Park City; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Committal was in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
