John Vea

SPRING GLEN — John Vea, 92, died peacefully on his farm April 16, 2011. He was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish.

Vea was born Dec. 5, 1918, in Spring Glen to Charlie Pasquele and Mary Teresa Pignaneli Vea. He married Rose Saccomano, Jan. 28, 1950, in Salt Lake City; she died July 16, 2006. He worked in the coal mines in Carbon County for 39 years, and was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America. During the 4th grade, he quit school and began working in the coal mines to help with the family finances. During this time, his family opened their doors and helped care for a number of Carbon County families during the Great Depression.

He will always be remembered for his generosity and devotion to his family and friends. The family wishes to thank Tisa Pendigrass, David Gurule, and the loving staff of Community Nursing Services for their love and support over the past five years. Also a special thanks to Monsignor Joseph Mayo, Deacon Silvio Mayo, Virginia Martinez, Josie Alcon and Kerry Wilson.

Vea is survived by his children, Mary Wilberg, Carbonville; Frances (Tallee) Fillingim, Spring Glen; Jerry (Bonnie) Vea, Spring Glen; Johnny (Tammy) Vea, Carbonville; Paul Vea, Spring Glen; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Entombment was in the Price City Cemetery.
