March 25, 1937 – March 20, 2017
Joseph John Duricy, 79, of Salt Lake City, passed away on March 20, 2017.
Joe was born in Warren, Ohio on March 25, 1937. He was valedictorian of his high school class and continued on to receive a degree in architecture from Kent State. He was drafted into the Army in 1962 and was stationed at Dugway Proving Ground, where he served a year and nine months as a draftsman and was honorably discharged.
Joe spent most of his working career at the University of Utah Hospital, where he worked in design and remodeling. Prior to working at the hospital, he worked on the university’s “lower campus,” where he, among other things, designed the center “U” at Rice-Eccles Stadium and the Huntsman Center. He retired in 2015 from the university after working more than 30 years.
On Feb. 4, 1967, Joe married Angela Marie Guarascio. They spent the next 50 years making many, many memories.
He enjoyed music and played in several bands. He paid his way through college playing saxophone and clarinet in a polka band. More recently, he played saxophone in the Salt Lake Letter Carrier Band. Joe loved to sing and was part of the church choir. Those who knew him well know that he hummed everywhere he went.
Joe enjoyed painting, art, poetry and reading (he read his books back to front). Joe was active in his church and heavily relied on his strong faith. He played, coached and was the number one fan of all his kids’ and grandkids’ activities.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Angela; his children Theresa, John (Nichol), Anthony (Renee), Deborah (Martin), Mary (Jesse), and Sarah; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; brothers Walter and Arthur; and other family and friends.
A funeral Mass was held on March 24 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
