WEST HAVEN — “Lent, a Journey with Jesus and Mary” is the theme of the three-day Lenten retreat at St. Mary Parish in West Haven. A continuation of the Eucharistic Revival parish mission series, the retreat will be Feb. 20-22, 7-8:30 each evening and will start with prayer and end with Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction. Each evening will feature a talk on one of three topics: “Never alone; a basic catechesis on the Eucharist;” “Mary, Model of Adoration;” and “Behold, belong, become: trusting us into service and faithful discipleship.”
The theme for the retreat was chosen by Father Martin Picos, pastor. Speakers will be Father Kolbe Missionaries of the Immaculata Ada Locatelli and Jillian Cooke, who presented at St. Mary retreats in 2021 and 2022.
“It’s a blessing that they’re coming,” said Donna Masek, the retreat organizer. “We’re continuing to deepen our own knowledge of the Eucharist, and their presentations are always very thoroughly researched and presented. The fact that [each day of the retreat is] beginning with prayer and ending in Eucharistic Adoration, I think helps us to stay focused with prayer on either side, and then allows people to avail themselves as they can of those things.”
While they are in Utah the missionaries will also share a presentation, “Called and Sent,” with the St. Joseph Catholic High School student body and will visit the school’s theology classes and campus ministry in Ogden. In addition, they will share the retreat’s “Behold, belong, become” talk with students and the public at the St. Jerome Newman Center at Utah State University in Logan on Feb. 22 from 4-5 p.m.
“They’re hoping to expand their outreach while they’re here to the youth and young adults,” Masek said.
The parish will offer other speakers throughout the year to support its Eucharistic revival efforts, she said.
