Matt Blockovich

"Beloved Father" Matt Blockovich died on July 10, 2011. He was the youngest child born to Matte and Matilda Blockovich (Brklyjic) in Highland Boy (Bingham), UT on April 25, 1925. He had two older sisters: Ann (Steve) Krmpotic and Ruby (George/Butter) Badovinatz, both deceased. Matt attended Bingham High School where he was a star basketball player. He left high school after completing 10th grade to take care of his mother and sisters due to his father's death and worked in the Kennecott copper mines. Matt served in the U.S. Navy during World War II after which he met Eva Tomlinovich at a CYO dance and was instantly struck with her beauty and grace. They married on November 20, 1947 and had a son, Mark Blockovich, on June 18, 1953. Eva encouraged Matt to get his GED and he later graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Economics. Matt worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company while attending college and continued his employment there until he retired. He lived in Utah most of his life with the exception of a few years working in North Carolina and his time spent in the military. Matt loved playing golf and puttering around the house. His favorite activity of all was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who were the light of his life. Matt is survived by his son Mark Blockovich and daughter-in-law Cindy Martin of Kirtland, NM, daughter-in-law Elaine (Roy) Woodmansee and granddaughter Allison Woodmansee of Evanston, WY, granddaughter Heather (Derek) Belt of Omaha, NE, grandson Matt Blockovich of Evanston, WY, and his beloved niece Bobbie King of Salt Lake City, UT. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Matt was a parishioner of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane (5000 South) for many years where a funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday July 14, 2011 at 11:00 am. Family and friends visitation will be held prior from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Committal, Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue and T Street. Funeral Directors, Neil O'Donnell and Sons.
