The Madeleine Choir School celebrated Our Lady of Guadalupe with great enthusiasm this year. I had the privilege of being the main celebrant of the Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, which included a procession that began at the choir school and wove its way through the avenues to our beautiful Cathedral. The children were very excited as we honored Mary, the Mother of God and Mother of the Americas. It was a wonderful expression of our faith in God, who gave Mary such an exalted place in salvation history when he called her to be the mother of his only Son. When Mary appeared to Saint Juan Diego in Tepeyac in 1531, she appeared as a native Indian of Mexico, thus identifying herself with the poor. She remains to this day a powerful intercessor with her son, Jesus Christ, and again and again she showers us, her children, with many graces that stem from her maternal intercession. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the secondary patroness of our diocese and I encourage all the faithful to pray for her intercession that Christ will continue to bless us as we make our pilgrim way on this earth.
