He died Jan. 29, 1991 when an Iraqi brigade crossed the Saudi border in the first of five separate Iraqi attacks that became known as the Battle of Al-Khafji. The Gold Star Mothers from Utah, Idaho, Nevada and Kentucky held the Nov. 12 event to ensure Americans remember the sacrifices of this generation of fighting men and women. IC photo/Christine Young
