Donna Masek of Saint Mary Parish in West Haven leads the recitation of the rosary in English during the annual Rosary for Life in the Diocese of Salt Lake City on Jan. 19 at Mount Calvary Cemetery in front of the monument for unborn children. About 30 people, including the Most Rev. John C. Wester, Bishop of Salt Lake City, attended the bilingual event, which commemorated the 41st anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision. "We pray that God will help us to deepen in our respect for the gift of human life," Bishop Wester said. "We are created in the image and likeness of God, and whenever we do injustice to that, it has a ripple effect. … We pray that our country would once again have respect for all of life. We are blessed to be in the United States. We do honor life in many ways more than other countries, although sadly we have this blind spot on abortion in our country, and so we have to keep praying that God will show us the way to proclaim the truth and to honor life in all of its forms. We also want to pray for all of the women who have to make the decision of whether to keep their child or not. We pray that God will help them make the right decision, and give them the courage and the grace and the strength, and that they will see in us, and in our Catholic Church, people who support them and love them and want to encourage them and help them in any way we can."
