KEARNS — Saint Francis Xavier Regional School has some very proud students and blooming authors. Students at Saint Francis Xavier have been learning a great deal about the publishing process while improving their vocabulary and writing skills. The students in kindergarten through third grade have been busy writing class books. Each child helped to write and illustrate a full-color page for the collaborative books. The original manuscript of the class-authored volume has been hardbound by a children’s book publisher and made a wonderful addition to the classroom libraries. Students in fourth through eighth grades were busy writing and illustrating their own individual books. After asking the fifth-grade students what they liked best about the whole process, the majority of them said they liked the illustrating and the writing of the books. The fact that they got to dedicate their book to someone was really important to some of them, too. When the books arrived, there was a lot of excitement in the air as the children previewed and experienced their own writing in a published, hardbound book.
