From the day he arrived in Utah to our most recent DCCW convention, the Most Rev. John C. Wester has made an imprint on the hearts of the ladies of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Kind, wise, understanding, compassionate, encouraging, humble and supportive are all words to describe him, and are echoed throughout the DCCW.

As our bishop, he encouraged us to use our united voices and act as advocates on issues related to Catholic social teachings. He always acknowledged and believed in the unique and important role Catholic women play not only in Utah but nationally and internationally. 

During our annual pastoral visits and his many presentations to the DCCW board and convention assemblies, he generously shared his precious time, wisdom, humor, and always words of encouragement and appreciation.

 Over the years at our annual Women of the Year Banquets, Archbishop Wester personally bestowed honors to numerous women chosen from parishes and missions throughout the Diocese of Salt Lake City – an honor and memory these women never forget.  

I, personally, feel so blessed to have started my term as DCCW president under his leadership and guidance. It is not surprising he was chosen as the next Archbishop of Santa Fe. 

Archbishop Wester, the ladies of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women wish you peace, joy and good health as you journey on to serve the people of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.  Please know we say farewell with great sadness but even greater admiration.
