Tooele’s Catholic school is really on the move. Saint Marguerite Catholic School students are making a name for themselves in the 2017-2018 school year as they presented their school’s new mission statement to the community: To teach children to learn, dream, believe, serve and aspire to succeed so their lives give glory to God.

A team of endurance-minded Mountaineers hit the ground running this fall with their new cross-country team, competing with junior high schools across the county. Musical Mountaineers in fourth grade filled the air for the first time with joyful strumming of brand-new ukuleles. Fifth graders formed a band for the first time and middle school students just completed their premiere year with a band.

Generous Mountaineer hearts have rallied the local community for donations of coats, mittens, socks, hats, supplies and funds for children affected by this year’s hurricanes, forest fires and winter weather. One part of the campaign was titled “Keep Kids Warm” – a reflection of how students are learning to care about others. This campaign alone brought enough warm weather clothing for 80 children.

Mountaineers love math and are aiming high. This year a record-setting 50 students are preparing for the international math competition called Math Kangaroo, which is held in March. Each year they rank higher and higher as state and national winners. Our amazing teachers selflessly give preparation classes for the competition before or after school. We are blessed by their commitment to helping students succeed.

The mayor of Tooele has recognized six Saint Marguerite Middle School students this year with the Mayor’s Youth Award. We are proud to have such great young men and women learning and growing strong in spirit in our 39th year as a school. We are looking forward to next year’s 40th Anniversary celebrations and new summits to conquer.
