Each year in October, the Intermountain Catholic holds its annual subscription drive. This year is no different. Despite the pandemic – and I would say even because of it – your support of this newspaper is crucial as we continue to report our local Catholic news.

This year has been challenging for all of us. Our churches were closed to public worship for several months because of COVID-19, and even now social gatherings are limited to a small number of people. Throughout all of this, the Intermountain Catholic has offered vital information to the local Church, providing up-to-date information about diocesan directives regarding public worship, our Catholic schools and activities in the diocese.

We also have reported on local efforts of pastors and parishes that have found unique ways to provide spiritual substance during these trying times. Then, too, we have written about the priests who received new pastor appointments this year, and about the dedication of the new St. Jude Maronite Church, the ordination of a new priest for the diocese, and how traditional events such as the annual Bishop’s Dinner are being celebrated despite the pandemic.

In addition, we’ve printed important stories on the life of the Church nationally and internationally. These are stories you won’t find anywhere else in Utah. As Bishop Oscar A. Solis said last year in his Intermountain Catholic subscription appeal, this newspaper “is not only a good resource for catechesis, inspiration and spiritual guidance, it also connects the Church with the faithful and with each other, promoting and enhancing the spirit of unity that builds our communion as the Body of Christ, his Church.”

Your $25 subscription brings not only 47 print issues to your mailbox, but also helps pay for the Intermountain Catholic’s online presences on Facebook and Twitter. Your subscription benefits your parish, as well, because it is applied to your parish’s assessment.

The Intermountain Catholic offers Bishop Solis and the Diocese of Salt Lake City help in carrying out their mission of evangelization. Please help us make it available in every Catholic home and in our Catholic schools by filling out the subscription card inserted in this issue. Feel free to purchase extra subscriptions for your friends and family, as well, or for another parishioner who isn’t a subscriber, so that everyone has access to news and information about the Church in our diocese, in our nation, and in our world. The subscription card may be returned either in the collection basket of your local parish, or by mail. Another option is to pay for the subscription online at www.icatholic.org.

Thank you for your generous support of the Intermountain Catholic, and may God bless you and your loved ones.
