KEARNS — Terry Barber, an internationally renowned Catholic motivational speaker, will give three talks March 17 at St. Francis Xavier Parish.

Barber is a co-host for Immaculate Heart Radio’s Terry and Jesse Radio Show and Reasons for Faith Live with Jesse Romero on EWTN Radio Network. He is the founder of the Catholic Resource Center and St. Joseph Communications and co-founder and chairman of the Board of Lighthouse Catholic Media. His most recent book is How to Share Your Faith with Anyone, and his most popular podcasts are “Culture Warriors for Christ” and “GodLoveYou.” In the past 31 years he has distributed more than 25 million inspirational Catholic audio CDs and DVDs through St. Joseph Communications.

His presentation at St. Francis Xavier is a culmination of the parish’s year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of Fatima. He will give three talks. In the first, “Living the Message of Fatima,” Barber will talk about understanding the messages given at Fatima and how to apply those messages to modern life. His second talk, “Mary: The First Evangelist,” will focus on the Blessed Mother as the First Evangelist, telling those around her, “Listen, and do whatever He tells you.” Barber will tie this idea in with “The Ten Commandments of Evangelization,” which outlines his principles of how Catholics can share their faith. The third talk, “The Roles Angels Played in Mary’s Life,” will examine the angels who helped Mary in her life and address how people can learn to recognize the angels they encounter in their own lives.

Throughout 2017 the parish and the Knights of Columbus celebrated the 100th anniversary of the events that took place in Fatima, Portugal, when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three children, Lucia Santos and Francisco and Jacinta Marto. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the rosary was said prior to all Masses during First Saturday devotions.

Parishioner George Jockisch said he was inspired to suggest organizing the celebration after he read a book about Fatima and, the next week, a fellow Knight suggested he read the same book

“Mary pushes us somehow,” Jockisch said.

Along with the Saturday devotions, the Knights took the opportunity to educate parish members about Fatima through regular articles on the subject in the church bulletin, he said.

Barber originally was scheduled to visit St. Francis Xavier Parish in October to complete the celebration, but scheduling conflicts led to a postponement until March 17. All proceeds from his presentation will be donated to the Carmelite monastery in Salt Lake City, the Carmel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Carmelite sisters were chosen because the Knights feel they are forgotten much of the year, Jockisch said.

The Knights of the parish would like to make such a presentation an annual event. After Barber’s talk, they will ask participants to fill out a survey to indicate which speakers they would like to see at subsequent events.
