The Trappists in Huntsville

Bishop of Salt Lake City

Speaking of monasteries, earlier this week I spent an overnight at the Trappist monastery in Huntsville. This is another monastic jewel in our diocese, along with the Benedictine monastery in South Ogden. The monks welcomed me to spend a few quiet hours in prayer and silence in their sparse yet comfortable monastery. They are a very fine group of men who, like our dear Carmelites, have dedicated their lives to the ministry of prayer. They also interact quite a bit with people from the “outside,” offering classes and spiritual direction. Let’s return the favor they give us day in and day out and keep them in our prayers, including as well as our other two monasteries. We are blessed to have these religious men and women in our midst and I am grateful to them all for their prayers, support and encouragement.
