OREM — A three-day bilingual retreat for people battling persistent personal problems will be presented at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church from July 28 to July 30.

This is the second year that such a retreat has been organized by Pescadores de Cristo (Christ’s Fishermen).

The main focus of the retreat will be the Holy Spirit. The theme is based in John 4:24 – “God is a Spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

The retreat presenters will be Father Luis Armando Rabago Moreno from Sinaloa, Mexico; Father Daniel Gagnon Omi, director of the Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith in the Archdiocese of Mexico City and the founder of the Burning Bush Community of Mexico City; and Gela, a well-known Catholic singer.

“The message that we want to share is that we are living in a postmodern world that has its own paradigms and its own way,” said Fr. Moreno, who also led the healing retreat in Orem last year. “That makes people change and modify their ways, but as Christians we have to remember that God’s word is prophetic and it is like the sword that takes all fabric and leaves us naked. Let’s allow God’s word to heal us, to purify us.”

People will benefit from the retreat because “our daily rhythm separates us from our Christian reality; we need to get closer to Christ and we all need to have a conversion to get closer with our Lord Jesus,” said Laura Miranda, one of the retreat organizers.

The retreat will start on Friday evening with a Mass. After that, the presentations will begin. The event also will include a Holy Hour, Mass each day, prayer and evangelization.

“We organized this retreat as a way of evangelization. … It’s a way to share who we are as Catholics,” said Griselda Estrada, another of the organizers, adding that they hope that the presentations will heal those who attend.

“Sometimes we draw in our problems and put aside God, who is always giving us a hand to raise us and to heal us,” Estrada said.

The retreat is open to everyone in the diocese.

“People from Payson, American Fork and the surrounding area have already registered for the retreat,” Estrada said.

“With this retreat we can improve our quality of life,” said Miranda, inviting everybody to participate.
