SALT LAKE CITY —The Office of Religious Education and the Youth and Young Adult Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City will present a Collaborative Ministry workshop.
“Susan and I decided to host this workshop together so that parish leaders like directors of religious education, catechists and youth ministers could come together and learn about collaboration. We also hosted it together to model collaboration between ministries,” said Samantha Almanza, director of the diocesan Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
The workshop is open to all interested adults, directors of religious education programs, youth ministers, deacons, priests, Catholic school teachers, lay ecclesial ministers, parish council members, and leaders of groups such as the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and Knights of Columbus.
The workshop leader will be Brother Loughlan Sofield S.T., who currently serves as director of the Missionary Servant Center for Collaborative Ministry; he also is the director of the Washington Archdiocesan Consultation and Counseling Center, and assistant director of the Center for Religion and Psychiatry in Washington.
“Brother Loughlan Sofield’s consultation services have helped hundreds of dioceses, and his work on collaboration is studied and implemented around the world. We are very fortunate to have this fine presenter visit the Diocese of Salt Lake City,” said Susan Northway, director of the Office of Religious Education.
Brother Sofield has been part of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity for the past 54 years; he has served on the faculty, lectured on many university campuses including the University of San Francisco and Georgetown University. He has worked in more than 200 dioceses in five continents.
The workshop title is “Building the Kingdom of God.”
“It is important that people participate in this workshop so they can learn how collaborative ministry benefits their parish. It is our hope that teams from each parish attend this workshop together so they can discuss ideas and strategies that are presented in the workshop,” said Almanza.
