Effective August 1, 2008, Bishop Wester has named Father Javier Vigen the Episcopal Vicar for Hispanic Affairs and Associate Vocation Director. In this newly created position, Father Javier will represent the bishop in all matters pertaining to Hispanic affairs, with particular outreach to the Hispanic community itself. The bishop will continue his presence to the Spanish-speaking community and he welcomes Father Javier’s assistance in responding to the needs of the important component of our diocese.

In this role, Father Virgen will collaborate with Maria-Cruz Gray and the Diocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry as well as with various other groups. Likewise, he will assist Father Colin Bircumshaw in his role as Vocation Director, to foster vocations. For some months now, Bishop Wester has been consulting groups regarding the needs of the growing Hispanic community and is responding accordingly.
