Salt Lake Tribune names Catholic schools of the year SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake Tribune named Juan Diego Catholic High School the Boys’ School of the Year, and Saint Joseph Catholic High School the Girls’ High School of the Year.
Juan Diego won state titles as a 2A school and has continued to do so as a 3A school. The Soaring Eagle team went unbeaten in football winning its first Class 3A title against Logan High School. They advanced to the semifinal round in basketball. And in baseball, were equally as dominating. Juan Diego lost just two games all spring. They won the State Baseball Championship against Judge Memorial Catholic High School beating them twice in two days. Read more...
Kearns-St. Ann sixth graders win championship
SALT LAKE CITY — The Kearns-Saint Ann sixth grade girls’ basketball team traveled to Pocatello, Idaho, to attend the annual Sacred Heart Basketball tournament March 20-22.
The sixth grade basketball team faced a field of 19 girls’ teams from Utah and Idaho and came home with the championship trophy. The tournament did not start out in Kearn-St. Ann’s favor as the team was the only team in a field of 45 who did not start to play on Friday night, March 20. Read more...
Vacation Bible School teaches excitement about God
WEST HAVEN — Children from St. Mary Parish in West Haven learned about God along with fireflies, crocodiles, spoonbills, possums, and turtles June 8-12. They were not in a swamp but they were at the Crocodile Dock, the Vacation Bible School theme for this year.
Children ages 3 to 10 gathered Monday thru Friday at 9 a.m. to sing and dance fun praise songs. Then, they joined a crew, which had a leader and members of all ages. Read more...
C-Span Network visits Kearns-Saint Ann School
SALT LAKE CITY — Students and teachers were invited aboard the award-winning C-SPAN Civics Bus as their national tour came to Utah. The 45-foot mobile production studio and demonstration center traveled to Salt Lake City May 8, making stops at Kearns-Saint Ann School, the Columbus Center, and East High School. Comcast Cable hosted the C-SPAN Civics Bus’ visit to Salt Lake City. Read more...

Juan Diego Catholic High School Boys Baseball team wins 3A State Championship
DRAPER — Juan Diego Catholic High School Baseball beat Judge Memorial Catholic High School in the final State Championship tournament to win the 3A State Title May 16, at Utah Valley University in Orem.
“We actually beat Judge on May 15, 5-2 in the semi-final game,” said Steve Cramblitt, head baseball coach and athletic director. “Then we beat them in the final game 8-3.” Read more...
Band and drama students perform ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ OGDEN — “We performed the musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ for two weeks in April,” said Alfonso Tenrerio, Saint Joseph Catholic High School music director. “This is the first year the band was incorporated with the drama department. Band has successful year
DRAPER — The 2008-2009 school year marked the most successful year for the Juan Diego Catholic High School bands and percussion groups. The program continued to grow under the direction of David Faires with the addition of Nathan Watson who taught all of the percussion groups and classes.
The Percussion Ensemble participated for the first time in several region and local percussion festivals. The Drum Line and Pep Band completed another strong year of school spirit with performances at the State Football Championships and Basketball Tournament. This marked the first year where the majority of the band students participated in the school solo festival with a number of region qualifiers. Read more...

Lacrosse player selected for National Senior Showcase
SALT LAKE CITY — Judge Memorial Catholic High School senior Patrick Hagan will participate in the high school lacrosse National Senior Showcase to be held June 19-20 at Bryant University in Rhode Island.
As the 2008-09 captain, Hagan led the Bulldog lacrosse squad to second place in the state. He has been an outstanding defensive player for Judge and was named to the 2009 Utah High School Lacrosse League Division A North All-Conference Team. Hagan was also honored on the 2009 All-State first-team defense along with Bulldog seniors Jack Lund and Anthony Wright. At the post-season team banquet, Hagan was recognized with the team’s Most Valuable Player Award. Read more...
Saint Joseph Catholic High School Girls track team repeats championship
OGDEN — Despite a lot of unfortunate injuries the girls on the Saint Joseph Catholic High School track team stuck with it and won their second straight State Championship title May 16, at Brigham Young University.
“We lost our leading distance runner Andrea Chavez to a basketball injury this year. Tauna DeHaan, Alex Shaw and Carissa Bauer also had injuries all year,” said Saint Joseph track coach Joseph Loffredo. “They persevered by swimming, biking and weight training with Assistant Coach Lisa Reed to try to keep them in shape while they were rehabilitating their injuries.
