The Daughters of Charity

On May 14th I had an interesting meeting with Sister Chris Maggi, DC, who is the regional representative of the Daughters of Charity. She is newly appointed and took the occasion to say hello to me while visiting the Daughters of Charity in our diocese. >>>

Mission Task Force Meeting

 On a regular basis, the Mission Task Force meets to discuss our work in the missions of the diocese. Mr. Michael Lee generously serves as facilitator of the meeting, which is attended by clergy, religious and lay leaders who represent all those who work so hard in our missions >>>

Staff Retreat Day

 On May 7th, the Pastoral Center staff, including our cemetery workers, met for the day at the Bishop’s Residence for a day-long retreat. >>>

Priest Jubilarians

We concluded our Clergy Spring Convocation with a dinner to honor our jubilarians for this year.  >>>

We had a wonderful clergy convocation early in May at St. Vincent de Paul Parish. >>>

Marriage Encounter

I was pleased to meet with Carmen and Martin Hernandez early in May to discuss Marriage Encounter. They administer the Spanish-speaking program in our diocese. >>>

May Day

May 1st turned out to be quite a full day! Early in the morning I attended the breakfast and opening ceremonies of the Greater Salt Lake Boy Scout Council’s Scout-a-Rama. This is the centennial year of the scouts so the event had even more significance than usual. I am deeply impressed with the scouting programs here in Utah. There is a real energy and vitality that drives the leaders and the scouts themselves. I am grateful to Father Jim Blaine, Ms. Pam Grant and Mr. Donald Ellefsen for all they do in promoting and facilitating the scouting program in our diocese.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

We had a marvelous celebration of the Eucharist at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Kearns Sunday. This predominantly Vietnamese community welcomed me warmly as they presented me with twenty-eight candidates for confirmation. In addition, we welcomed in the Year of the Tiger, asking God to bless us and to grant us peace and growth in the new lunar year.
