Frances Theresa Torpey Eder

February 21, 1931 ~ February 5, 2025

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Frances Theresa Eder, our beloved wife, mother and friend. Frances died at home of natural causes in the arms of her husband on February 5, 2025. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and compassion.

Frances married her love, Bob (Roberto) Eder in 1966 in New York City. Their union was a testament to true partnership and enduring love and friendship. Frances was a devoted mother to their son, Robert Jr., and a cherished and sweet grandmother to her three grandchildren Reilly, Ethan and Weston, who brought immense joy into her life. Fran deeply loved her daughter-in-law, Michelle, who became an invaluable, indispensable and beloved member of her family.

Frances was a diligent student, graduating from Catherine McAuley Catholic High School in Brooklyn in 1949. She then entered the Sisters of Mercy Religious Order in 1950 and then worked in the order’s orphanage, among other assignments. Frances left the Sisters of Mercy in 1966 after 17 years.  She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Joseph’s College in Brentwood, Long Island, in 1976. Upon moving to Utah, Frances earned a master’s in education degree in 1982 from the University of Utah. For all her life, Frances loved children and believed in the power of education to better lives and foster racial and ethnic equality.

In addition to her educational achievements, Frances was involved with her husband’s business for over 30 years. She was well known to many business clients for her kindness and professional responsibility.  

Frances had a love for the arts and was an avid reader, often sharing her favorite books with friends and family. For as long as she was able, Frances enjoyed gardening, finding solace and joy in nurturing her plants and flowers in her own backyard garden. Her home was often filled with fresh vegetables and the scent and color of summer flowers.

Frances’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a sweet and generous soul, a beacon of light, a source of strength, and an embodiment of grace. Her legacy of love, selflessness, compassion and kindness will continue, despite her death, to inspire and give solace to her sorrow-filled husband and grieving family.

Funeral services were privately held by her family.
