SALT LAKE CITY — Abel Maestas passed away July 4, 2013. Maestas was born to Lucinano and Feliz Martinez Maestas, May 16, 1918 in Edith, Colo. He married Mary O. Vigil Sept. 23, 1939 in Grand Junction, Colo. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Asiatic-Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1946 and worked construction as a cement mason. Abel is survived by children Tony (Linn), Sharon (Jerry) McPolin, Gordon, Alice Maestas and Dave (Kathy); 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; brothers Fred (Stella) and Gilbert; and sister Mary (Val) Gomez. Maestas was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, one brother and one sister. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
