OGDEN — Amanda Norrell a senior at St. Joseph Catholic High School, Ogden, will answer the call to vocation by joining the Missionaries of Charity. Amanda began thinking about becoming a nun when she was 6 years old. The first stop will be New York for about six months. This period of Aspirancy is a time of discernment. Other steps allow her to discern her vocation more deeply – for 11 years or more before final vows are taken. Norrell said she’d like to teach, perhaps not in a formal setting. Writing and traveling to foreign places thrill her. Pakistan beckons because, "everything bad happens in Pakistan; it can’t hurt to see a smiling face." Norrell said her parents taught her to make her own choices. She’s making a choice that is sometimes perceived as uncool, boring, or stuffy, but she sees it differently. Being a religious doesn’t change who you are and she’s thrilled to be who she is, choosing to be a nun.
