SALT LAKE CITY — Angelina Raso Okamura died of natural causes Oct. 21, 2015.
Okamura was born Sept. 2, 1909 in Plaza Vieja, Guanajuato, Mexico. She was 106, and known by everyone she came in contact with as ‘Grandma O.’ She immigrated to the United States with her family on Aug. 16, 1917. She married Yoheiji Okamura on Dec. 12, 1923, at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. Grandma O loved working in her garden, tending to her beautiful rose bushes, making tortillas, and spending time with her family. She received the Centurion Award as well as an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Benedict XVI for her 100th birthday.
Okamura is survived by her brother, Trino (Eva) Raso; children Frank (Aleena) Okamura, Esther Sasaki, Linda Fuller, and son-in-law William Louie; 28 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.
Okamura was preceded in death by her husband, Yoheiji; children Ruby Lopez, Merrie Louie, Joseph Okamura; and sons-in-law Gilbert Lopez, Buck Sasaki and Les Fuller.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Ann Catholic Church.
