January 22, 1924 ~ November 11, 2023

Anna “Martini” Hiller, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2023, with her children by her side. Born January 22, 1924, she was the third of five children of Valentine and Josephine Martini, immigrants from Austria (Italy) and Poland. After moving to Richmond, California, Anna met the love of her life, Bob (Robert Hiller), and they married in 1943.

Together, the couple crafted a beautiful life spanning 67 years until Bob’s passing in 2011. Bob’s career with Standard Oil took them to various places, from Richmond, to Bountiful, Utah, Grand Junction, Colorado, and eventually settling back in Bountiful in 1973.

Anna embraced her role as a first-generation American. Family, the Roman Catholic faith, parish and neighborhood communities were the pillars of her life. She cherished her numerous friendships and in her vibrant years was known to always offer a meal or at least a treat to visitors. Anna remained socially active, driving well into her 90s, visiting housebound friends, and enjoying outings with her younger, more mobile friends, particularly her beloved bridge groups and Wolf Pack friends.

Both Anna and Bob enjoyed travel. She was easily captivated by the world’s beauty and could be visibly moved by its grandeur. Anna was equally sensitive to the world’s hardships, often brought to tears by news stories of war, natural disasters and cruelty. A life-long Democrat, she was not at all shy about sharing her social, political and other views.

Anna and Bob have three children, eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Clara; and her children Ronald, Jeanne Godwin (Richard), John and their families. Preceding her in death were her husband Robert, her sister Sylvia, older brother Frank and his wife Caroline, brother-in-law Matthew, younger brother William and his wife Barbara, and daughter-in-law Catherine.

A funeral Mass for both Anna and Bob (who donated his body to the University of Utah) will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on January 13, 2024, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 1800 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful, with internment the following Monday into the columbarium at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Grand Junction, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations be made to St. Olaf Catholic Church in Bountiful.
